Delphi 7 is still popular

I recently ran a survey of a sample of Castalia users. One of the questions I asked was “Which version(s) of Delphi are you currently using?”

Of those who responded to the survey, 50% said they are using Delphi XE, and 50% said they are still using Delphi 7.

Two things to keep in mind:

1. This was a multiple-answer survey question, so the fact that those add up to 100% means nothing. Many people are using multiple versions of Delphi for multiple projects.

2. I would like to think that Castalia users represent a cross-section of Delphi users, and that these numbers are representative of the Delphi user population as a whole, but I don’t know that for certain.

In any case, it’s interesting that Delphi 7 is still high in the popularity rankings, despite being so old.

Did you know that Castalia works every version of Delphi from 5 to XE, including Delphi 7? (Except for Delphi 8, because there is literally nobody using it). See how Castalia can make your awesome Delphi IDE even better at www.twodesk.com/castalia.

…or they’ve succumbed the all-too-common (in my experience) confusion between Delphi 7 and Delphi/RAD Studio 2007…

Most of the surveys lead to a similar result. I think many people simply need a simple IDE that works. And D7 is one of those evergreens. In the past a company would have been proud of the fact that the IDE is still used, because this means about 9 years ago the made the right product. Not praising D7 … but honestly most of the developments are not this complicated if one does not make things complicated.
